Picnic Shelters

Picnic shelter reservations can be made in advance for your convenience.  To make shelter reservations, please call the Lake Red Rock Project Office at 641-828-7522 Monday - Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.   Picnic shelters available for reservation are:

  • Shelters #1, #2, #3, and #4 in the Fifield Recreation Area
  • Both shelters in the South Overlook Recreation Area
  • The Whitebreast Point shelter in Whitebreast Recreation Area
  • North Overlook shelter
Picnic Shelter Rules

1.Beginning the first business day after January 1, anyone may reserve shelters for that year by contacting the Corps Administration Office and paying the reservation fee in advance (seven days advance payment for Miner’s Retreat shelter, 24 hours advance payment for all other shelters).

Reservation Fees:  $30.00 for shelters (excluding Miner’s Retreat) – For larger events a special event permit may also be necessary

$75.00 for Miner’s Retreat plus a $100 security damage deposit – if a special use permit is required, the security damage deposit is $250.00.

2. Fifield, Whitebreast, and North Overlook Recreation Areas are open from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. All other recreation area hours are as posted. Quiet hours are from 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.

3. No camping is allowed.

4. Groups with an expected attendance of more than 100 people or where special activities are planned will require a special use permit issued by the Operations Manager.

5. All vehicles must remain on roadways or parking lots.

6. Fires are permitted only in grills or at designated areas.

7. Use of firearms, fireworks, or projectile firing devices is prohibited.

8. Picnic tables are not to be removed from underneath the shelter or used for any other purpose other than as a table.

9. Dead wood on the ground may be collected for campfires in designated areas.

10. Please show respect for the area and the next users by placing all litter in garbage cans provided at the shelter.

11. All pets shall be on a 6 foot leash.

12. All other Corps regulations not listed here apply to the area. Copies of these regulations are available from Park Rangers or at the Red Rock Visitor Center.
