Trails

Volksweg trailThe Volksweg Trail extends west from the city of Pella down to the Des Moines River and west to the Fifield Recreation Area on Lake Red Rock. Scenic views of mature forests, restored prairies, pine plantations and Lake Red Rock can be enjoyed by users of all ages!
Parking is available at Howell Station Landing, North Tailwater Recreation Area, South Tailwater Recreation Area, North Overlook Picnic Area, Wallashuck Campground, and Fifield Recreation Area.

Karr Nature Trail

Surface: Earthen path
Length: 1 mile
Location: Cordova County Park
This trail was named after a small early village which was located within the confines of the park. A portion of the trail is designated as a self-guided interpretive trail with 24 points of interest.

Elk Rock Equestrian Trail (click here for map)

Surface: Earthen path
Length: 13 miles
Location: Elk Rock State Park
This trail has scenic beauty for horseback riders and nature lovers. A picturesque view of the mile long bridge is a highlight of this trail.
