General Information

General information about Lake Red Rock is available from Park Rangers, campground fee booths, or at the Visitor Center. Please read and abide by the following rules which were made for your safety and the protection of the natural resources at the project. Also, please report any problems you encounter in the area so that we may take appropriate action to resolve them. Our goal is to make your visit a pleasant one.

Hickory Ridge Campsite & Reservation Information
1. There are 8 sites available in Hickory Ridge. Sites 1-4 are available for reservations and sites 5-8 are available on a first come first serve basis. Please note that site two is large enough for two tents. All other sites have room for one tent. Each site also has a fire ring. Sites are available by paddle-in or drive-in use.

2. To make a reservation, please call the Lake Red Rock Office at 641-828-7522 between 7:30 am and 4:00 pm. Reservations must be made three days prior to the arrival date. There is no reservation or use fee for the campsites. One individual may reserve all four reservable sites at one time.

3. For drive-in users, there is a parking lot available located approx. 1/4 mile from the entrance of the area. A gate is located adjacent the parking lot preventing vehicle traffic from accessing the campsite area. Carry-in of camping equipment is required for drive in users.  Campers may leave vehicles overnight in the parking lot.

4. There are limited amenities in the area. There is no electricity available in the area. Potable water is currently also unavailable, although there are future plans for a potable water hydrant located adjacent to the shelter. Portable toilets and trash cans are available adjacent to the shelter.

Hickory Ridge Campsite Registration Information
1. Campers with Reservations: Upon arrival, campers with reservations should set up on the site that they reserved. There will be a red card in the campsite post with the last name, site number, and due-in/due-out day on the card.

2. Campers without Reservations: Upon arrival, campers without reservations should set up on a site without a white "Site Occupied" card or a red "Site Reserved" card. Reservable sites are designated with an "R" on the post. If there is no red "Site Reserved" card in the post of a reservable site, campers should call the Lake Red Rock Project Office at 641-828-7522 or the Lead Ranger cell phone at 641-891-4869 to check availability of the site before setting up equipment. Each evening, Park Rangers will be in the area to issue new campers a white "Site Occupied" card that should remain in the campsite post during the camper's stay.

3. Check-in and Check-out time is at 4:00 pm. After check-out, campers should deposit their campsite post cards in the trash cans located adjacent the shelter.
