Vessel Numbers - Coast Guard & IMO

The seven digit vessel identification number from the Coast Guard Vessel Index File for domestic vessels and the Lloyd's Number (IMO - International Maritime Organization) for foreign vessels.

IMO (International Maritime Organization) number - A sequential number assigned by Lloyds when a vessel is built. It stays with the ship during its lifetime and is discontinued when the vessel is no longer in service. This number is unique to the vessel despite other changes such as call signs, name, flag, and Coast Guard number. St. Marys River currently uses.

Tracking each individual vessel is pertinent to the OMNI/LPMS system. Tracking includes giving all vessels, except recreation boats, individual numbers.
